Ribbons and Buttons

Hello Blogosphere,

Thought I'd just do a short post saying how much I adore ribbons and buttons!  Does anyone else feel the same?  I could just keep on finding and buying and collecting buttons and never do anything with them other than just spill them out from time to time and admire them!  Seriously like a kid in a sweet shop when it comes to buttons! I must have hundreds, some are little and shiny and some are huge and patterned!  Oh and jars too, are like a hobby too, but I think that's a whole other blog post!  Here is just a spilling of some of my favourites:
Just look!  I especially love of those handpainted wooden ones!
Aaaah buttons!  Those big wooden ones with the handpainted flowers, I bought from a lady with a stall in Berwick upon Tweed.  I don't know her name or anything about her, other than she takes her ribbons and buttons and lace and material there to sell at the market and she reminds me of a crafty Mary Poppins!!!

Ribbons are also a passion but I've yet to find the ideal way of storing them, I've kept them on spools, I've had them hanging from bars etc.. maybe I just have too many?! Hahaha!  Well, at the moment I am so busy I am just an unorganised crafter, but it's impossible to be completely creative and tidy too, right?!  Here is a tiny part of my ribbon collection, in dire need of sorting through, but look at the colours and textures and patterns! I love it!:
vintage ribbons, lace, organza, wired, patterned, silk! :-)
Well, I'm procrastinating from assignments-writing now, but what better way to spend a morning than looking at one's pretty collections!!  I might even show you my necklaces next time... now there's a sight to behold!!

Till next time Crafters!

Crochet Chic

Hi there,

Ok, so I just had to show the world my new lampshade!!  My boyfriend would only let me turn his spare room into my scrapbooking room if I promised to buy a new lampshade for it! And boy did I buy THE lampshade for it!  Is it possible to be in love with an inanimate object?!?  It's crocheted and it has beads on it and it's just... aaah!

Here we are:

isn't it simply stunning?!
This makes me so happy and just looks so beautiful in my pinky/purple and cream themed crafty room!!!  Anyone else want to share what their craft space is like?

Happy Crafting!

Hello Bloggers,

Mend It Girl here.  Ok, so scrapbooking is my passion!  I've made a good few books now, but sometimes I like to make single pages and just hang them as one-off pieces of art!  It's really hard to find gorgeous 12 x 12" frames though, right? I've yet to try it myself, but my boyfriend suggested frames for vinyl records!  Looking forward to get my hands on some, and get my pages on the wall!!

Anyway, I thought I'd share my recent project with you:  A Summertime of Posie!  I've done about a dozen pages, so my book is about half full!  I dunno about anyone else but I love making my pages as raised up and as 3D as possible, so my books are always in need of a few post extensions for the extra room!  I've resorted to using some old frames my boyfriend had generic prints in and putting a couple pages up in the living room!  They are bright, unique and mean something to us.  The one below is of Posie sitting in Rowie's toybox.  Posie loves a nearby dog called Rowie, but she loves the poor dog's toybox even more!  So we sat her in it with a headscarf tied round her head! She looks totally unamused!

I made the background white so that the colours would pop.  Then I tried
to capture the colour and fun that's so visible in the  way Posie plays!

I've splattered bright paints on the background and inked the
edges of the paper mats!

I love to make my pages textured, so I often stitch on
pattens (brown squiggles) using my mini sewing  machine.
I've raised the butterflies up using foam pads!
Here are a few other pages from the book:

I've torn and distressed my edges with files and chalked them.
I also made my own fonts in the brads.  I love making
ribbon flags and stapling them on with bright coloured staples!

The best bits of Posie! I wrote all the around the edges of each
photo and used letter stickers to emphasise the body part!

I'm very pleased with the fluffiness and whimsicalness of this one,
with the butterflies and clouds.  I also did a higgledy piggledy
stitching around the outside!

I like to group together embellishments for effect, including
buttons and butterflies in the two contrasting colours.

Posie and Rowie.  I've used a lot of chunky hand-stiching on
this one, as well as penned on stitches and glossy accents
to finish off.

Well, I think that's possibly enough scrapbooking for one day! But, I hope you enjoyed looking at my work and please feel free to leave me a comment, I'd love to hear from you!

Bye for now,

A Bit About Me

Hello bloggers,

I set up my blog last night so it's all new to me, but I just know already I'm going to love it! I've been taught by the finest seasoned blogger, with little nuggets of advice such as "put up content and they will come!" so here's my contents and just you come along!

This blog is going to be crafty, I am completley a scrapbooker at heart! maybe i will start including some humorous tales of my day-to-day life, I might even put up photos of my most loved things!

I think I'll let the world know a bit more about me: I'm in the process of becoming a librarian and cannot wait, 'cause it is so much more than books and shhhh-ing nowadays, even though I love both! I love taking photos!  I love zombie movies and Harry Potter! Penelope Garcia from Criminal Minds is me hero and fashion icon, she inspires me with her many headbands! I have a ludicrously large collection of necklaces! I have a couple dogs and a budgie, who bring so much laughter to life! My boyfriend and I's dog is a border terrier, and she may even be starting her own blog soon.

I think though that this blog will mostly be inspired by my love of buttons, ribbons, lace, sewing, paper craft and pretty things!! They make me happy!  I cannot wait to get started.... Hope I do ok!

Bye for now!

Hoping to soon give you a bit of background to me and what sort of stuff I'm hoping to use this blog for!
